Abstract
Introduction: Arterial hypertension (HTN) is one of the leading causes of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality worldwide and in Paraguay. Objective: To describe the comprehensive approach to chronic HTN in adults treated at the María Auxiliadora Family Health Unit during 2023, analyzing detection, pharmacological treatment, and follow-up. Methodology: An observational, descriptive, and cross-sectional study was conducted on 511 adult hypertensive patients. Results: Losartan (46.9%) and enalapril (33.9%) were the most frequently used medications. Diabetes mellitus was the most common comorbidity (16.8%). No patient required referral to a more complex center. Conclusion: The results demonstrate the need to strengthen early detection, follow-up, and health education in primary care to improve the control of HTN and its complications.
